To organize comfortable living conditions in the house, create an optimal microclimate, you need to take care of protection against penetration of moisture into the room from the outside – from precipitation and groundwater. A set of measures to prevent the penetration of moisture into the room is called waterproofing and is produced in accordance with modern requirements and using modern materials.
When talking about waterproofing, most often we are talking about the roof, since this is the part of the house that certainly takes on all atmospheric precipitation without exception. You can carry out waterproofing work with certain building skills on your own, however, the result of the work, the final quality, will be much better if it is entrusted to professionals from a roofing company specializing in roof waterproofing.
In order for the roof to meet the expectations placed on it as much as possible, only roofing material (slate, tiles) with a roofing material lining is not enough – it is necessary to create a so-called “roofing cake”, which in the standard version consists of the following layers:
– roofing;
– step crate;
– counterlattice;
– rafter system;
– waterproofing;
– thermal insulation;
– vapor barrier.
Forming a single whole, each of these layers performs an important function, however, the main element, in addition to the roofing material, is precisely the waterproofing layer.
The strategy for waterproofing the roof of a house depends on the arrangement of the attic space – it is either a non-residential attic or an attic – a fully habitable room.
If an attic is being built, then only the outer, roofing layer is waterproofed. Only the attic overlap is insulated, and the vapor barrier layer is laid under a layer of insulation, directly on the overlap itself. An important task is to ensure competent ventilation of the under-roof space, due to which moisture, without having time to accumulate, will simply erode.
Mansard roof assumes the following order of waterproofing. The counter-lattice is overlapped with a waterproofing film, a roof covering in the form of tiles, metal tiles, etc.d. A thermal insulation layer of appropriate materials is laid under the waterproofing layer, which is sheathed from the side of the room with a vapor barrier film with further decorative sheathing. To prevent moisture from collecting between the hydro- and heat-insulating layers, a small ventilation gap is left between them.
